Ethics & Sustainability

At Daisy King, we acknowledge the environmental impact that the fashion industry has. We strive to keep our carbon footprint and wastage as low as possible by using specially chosen sustainable fabrics and local factories with low-waste policies. We believe knowing what goes into the creation of clothes (both materials and labour) is essential for customers to make informed decisions. Because of this we are completely transparent about the history of each piece we create.

We are making clothes to be worn, re-worn, kept and eventually mended. Treat them with care and let them bring you joy.

Our fabric printing

All our printed fabrics are digitally printed in the UK. Digital textile printing is one of the most eco-friendly techniques because you can reduce the amount of waste that is inevitably produced. Our printers monitor their water and coating consumption and also pay specialists to dispose of the waste by-products. They have also invested in high-tech equipment to reduce water usage to the minimum required to achieve production, use Azo dye free certified inks and all unavoidable waste fabrics are collected by a recycling specialist who shreds them and then uses the fibre as bioenergy to create heat sources and electricity when incinerated.

Our fabrics

We avoid using polyester and synthetic fabrics in all our garments. Below is a list of fabrics we use and their origins.

Linen  -  Our linen is from Europe. Linen is made from flax and all parts of the plant are used to create a breathable fabric that is recyclable and biodegradable.

Silk Tencel  -  Tencel regenerated from sustainably grown wood cellulose, making it one of the most environmentally friendly fabrics available. This fabric is blended with silk and comes from China.

Cotton  -  Our cottons are from UK mills and although cotton uses a lot of water in production it is a natural fibre with cotton plants having an eight to nine month renewable life cycle.

Made in London

We use a factory in London that works off renewable energy, minimises waste and has a mandate of eco friendly packaging from suppliers. The staff are all paid fair wages and work in a comfortable and relaxed environment. Having a local factory also helps us to minimise our carbon footprint for shipping and deliveries in the production process.

Our packaging

All ecommerce packaging used by us is plastic free and FSC® certified, which stands for Forest Stewardship Council. This  is an organisation dedicated to promoting responsible forestry, they have strict environmental, social and economic standards and have a rigorous chain of custody that tracks the timber from the forest to the final user. Our packaging suppliers are the greenest brand of packaging on the market and our boxes are made from 100% recyclable and biodegradable paperboard.

Our t-shirts

Daisy King t-shirts are 100% organic cotton and made in a GOTS certified factory in Bangladesh. Organic cotton  is natural and uses less water than standard cotton, the production process does not use any chemicals (like pesticides or fertilisers) and encourages the rotation of crops, keeping soil healthier and more fertile. Waste is also recycled from the cotton ginning process for the animal feed industry. GOTS is the Global Organic Textiles Standard and makes sure that throughout the production chain everything is compliant with the labour standards of the International Labour Organisation. It is also the strictest certification for textiles made from organic fibres, tracking the entire production chain from farm to factory. Our embroidery and printing takes place in the UK.
